AHL assisted Aloha United Way (AUW) in taking a fresh look at their available office space. Due to the nature of their work, AUW understands that human interaction and collaboration are critical to achieving effective communication and healthy communities. With AHL’s guidance, and AUW management’s commitment to engage the entire staff in the design process, AUW discarded their maze-like warren of private offices and embraced an entirely open design that better reflects their mission and community work. AHL’s design created a working environment that improves space efficiency, supports productivity, encourages the sharing of knowledge, and delights the staff; all while maximizing a very tight budget.

In the design process, AUW staff selected a “kahakai” themed design. Every material and design decision was inspired by the sand and the ocean.
