The John A. Burns School of Medicine Translational Research Clinic Renovation features exam and research space that is private and flexible, while comfortable and welcoming. Decreased square footage from the clinic’s previous location meant the design needed to be flexible and innovative. Patient privacy was of the upmost importance in regards to acoustics between spaces. Special consideration was also given in regards to window treatments that allow natural light into the exam spaces without compromising privacy. Sustainability initiatives include water efficiency, the reuse of materials, and special attention to indoor environmental quality. The new space allows for increased research activity, synergy, and collaboration among JABSOM research faculty and staff in a central location.
