The new Public Information Center (PIC) at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (NMCP) at Punchbowl was part of a larger scope that included creating more columbaria within the Punchbowl Crater for U.S. veterans and their families. NMCP, as the final resting place and memorial for veterans of U.S. wars in the 20th and 21st centuries, is an important, almost sacred, place for many Americans. The PIC welcomes and orients visitors and also houses administrative staff and the honor guard that accompanies funeral corteges that begin at the PIC.

The goal was to create a sustainable and visually pleasing building that complemented the surrounding residential neighborhood, but also symbolized the importance of the cemetery. To achieve this, the building was opened to natural daylight and the stunning views by using a butterfly roof (V- shape) where the roof slopes up towards the perimeter of the building. To accommodate for water that diverts towards the middle of the building, a gutter detail provides multiple layers of redundancy for ease of maintenance.

The project achieved LEED Silver Certification, a requirement by the Veteran's Administration.
