1060 Bishop, an adaptive reuse project, transforms a former office building and college classrooms into 51 affordable housing units, ranging from studios to one- and two-bedroom units. AHL worked closely with the Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) to create a new Bill 7 for adaptive reuse. AHL also worked closely with State of Hawaii Historic Preservation Division (SHPD) to ensure the building's historic facade remained intact while adhering to modern residential codes. Exposed textural concrete and matte black accents complement smooth brass and glossy white tile, tying the inspirational Honolulu Central Business District and Chinatown districts together.
